This course explores the foundations of science and engineering through the lens of alchemy, natural philosophy, and magic in European history. Designed for students with a technical background, this course presents the evolution of scientific thought from ancient practices to early modern science. The emphasis is on how alchemists, natural philosophers, and occasional occultists contributed to today's scientific principles. Students will come in contact with primary texts, learn about influential figures, and see landmark experiments. They will understand the blend of mysticism, experimentation, and technical advancement that characterized early scientific exploration. This course aims to deepen students' understanding of the roots of their disciplines while offering insight into the cultural, philosophical, and technological legacy that paved the way for modern engineering.
