Participants in this course will develop a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on generative AI and machine learning. Key concepts such as neural networks, deep learning, and large language models (LLMs) will be introduced and explored. The course will examine real-world applications of AI, highlighting its capabilities, limitations, and the ethical considerations involved in its responsible use.

In addition, participants will gain hands-on experience using generative AI tools to support academic research. Through practical exercises, they will learn how AI can assist in conducting literature reviews for research papers, dissertations, and project proposals.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain fundamental concepts and principles of AI and machine learning.
  • Critically evaluate opportunities, limitations, and risks of generative AI.
  • Reflect on ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in research.
  • Use AI tools responsibly and effectively to support academic literature reviews.
