This course is developed in the framework of a Knowledge Exchange Activity among Technology Transfer Offices of EURECA-PRO partner universities. All the material developed within this event will be stored in this Moodle course for capacity building purposes of EURECA-PRO TTO staff.

The Technical University of Crete (TUC), proud member of the European University on Responsible Consumption and Production (EURECA-PRO), organizes a series of open scientific lectures in the context of faculty exchange visits.
The next lecture of the series will be delivered by Dr. Adam Długosz, Associate Professor at the Department of Computational Mechanics and Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology (SUT), Poland, one of the partner universities in EURECA-PRO. Dr. Długosz will be visiting TUC for the whole week starting the 20th of April 2026, meeting members of TUC Faculty and Staff. Dr. Długosz is visiting TUC with the support of EURECA-PRO TUC.
Prof. Długosz's lecture is titled:
"Selected Aspects of Multicriteria Optimization Problems
in Mechanical Engineering using Metaheuristic Algorithms"
and is scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 13:30 EET (12:30 CET)
and can be attended either physically or virtually:
Room K2.A1 "Panagiotis Manolopoulos" (School of CEE @ TUC Campus)
https://tuc-gr.zoom.us/j/91205761164?pwd=uDZrhimZXsb12AG8bRckETJnUOshaa.1
The lecture is open to all interested members of TUC and EURECA-PRO.
Abstract
During the lecture, the developed methods and algorithms of multicriteria optimization using metaheuristic algorithms for selected topics in mechanical engineering will be presented. It will cover the performance of the developed methods and their practical applications, such as in the optimization of composite structures, MEMS systems, and others. The optimization criteria are determined by solving appropriate boundary value problems using the finite element method (FEM). A brief overview of the coupling of FEM software and the optimization algorithms used will also be presented.
Short Bio
Dr. Adam Długosz (PhD Eng.) is an Associate Professor with the Department of Computational Mechanics and Engineering in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland. His academic interests focus on multi-criteria optimization, metaheuristic optimization methods, numerical modeling of coupled problems and application of CAE systems in identification and optimization tasks.

General info: This Erasmus+ BIP course is the first pilot Buddy Community Course, where participants will come together to strengthen relationships and share the knowledge and insights developed throughout the programme.
The course consists of two parts; online and onsite.
Participants will join five online sessions (90 minutes each) on the following dates:
- Thursday, January 29th (10:00–11:30 CET)
- Thursday, February 26th (10:00–11:30 CET)
- Thursday, March 26th (10:00–11:30 CET)
- Thursday, April 30th (10:00–11:30 CET)
- Thursday, May 28th (10:00–11:30 CET)
Participants will also attend a concluding in-person Staff Week at the Technical University of Crete from June 15 to June 19, 2026.
Requirements:
- Commitment to participate in at least four out of five online sessions and the in-person week is required.
- English: a min B2 level is required.
Expected Outcomes:
- Creation of lasting cross-institutional peer networks.
- Improved intercultural awareness and communication skills.
- Strengthened sense of belonging within the EURECA-PRO community.
- Planning of further capacity building activities

The “Igniting Innovation: The EURECA-PRO Flagship Debut” event marks an important milestone for the EURECA-PRO Alliance. It will highlight the key achievements of the first Core Groups and officially present and establish the first EURECA-PRO Flagships.
Open to all researchers (Professors, Post Docs, PhD Students) of EURECA-PRO Partner Institutions, the event will take place both onsite and online on the 25th of September 2025 at The Language Centre of the Technical University of Crete (TUC), in Chania, Crete, Greece.
Target audience:
- Academics who are already involved in an emerging Flagship, as this will be an opportunity for them to exchange with other academics interested to contribute to its co-construction.
- Academics who are interested to join the EURECA-PRO momentum and would like to present new ideas or perspectives in relation to the EURECA-PRO strategic challenges for the emergence of new core groups.
